How Aging Changes Breast Shape
You already know that as a girl develops into an adolescent and finally into a grown woman, her breasts go through several changes on the inside of her body. But it’s also true that breast growth stages continue long after her childbearing years begin. There are many reasons why breasts get bigger (or smaller) as time passes, as changes in weight, pregnancy and lactation, hormones and gravity take their toll.
Many women find themselves unsatisfied with the shape of their breasts, especially when the changes occur during menopause. The good news is that breast lift and augmentation can restore the feminine silhouette and boost confidence at the same time.
How Breast Shape Changes Through Your 40s and Beyond
You probably thought you were done with breast growth in your 20s, but health and lifestyle changes influence size well into adulthood. For example, if your breasts (and your waistline) grew during your college years, then you may find your breast size changing as you lose the so-called freshman 15. Metabolism also sometimes slows, and that can lead to enlargement.
Pregnancy and lactation are known breast-boosters. Your breasts may grow a full cup size or even more. Before you buy a new wardrobe packed with expensive lingerie in your new size, keep in mind that those changes won’t outlast the time you spend breastfeeding.
During your 30s, you may notice your breasts have stretched, particularly if you have gained then lost weight multiple times due to pregnancy. Stretch marks are a common indicator.
In your 40s, as hormonal changes signal the start of menopause, you’ll likely notice your breasts become softer or less firm. This results from fat replacing breast tissue. Performing regular self-exams will help you identify potential health issues, such as hard cysts that may require removal.
In your 50s and beyond, gravity starts to win the aging war. That’s because the body reduces its production of collagen, which prevents sagging. You don’t need to suffer with sagging or too-small breasts. Breast lift improves sagging and stretching, and breast augmentation can give you the physique you’ve always wanted.
Breast Lift and Augmentation
The bottom line is your average breast size will vary depending on your age and lifestyle. If you are reasonably healthy and have realistic expectations, you can get the appearance you want through breast lift and/or augmentation. If your breasts are too large, then a reduction and lift may give you the results you want.
Breast lift does just what it sounds like: It surgically removes tissue and refits the breasts so they sit higher on the body. Many women choose to add augmentation to a breast lift to get larger plus higher breasts. Women who are satisfied with the location of their breasts may opt for augmentation only.
Remember that augmentation won’t lift the breasts. If you’re unhappy with how your breasts hang, then augmentation may only make the problem worse.
