How Breast Reduction Works

You will meet with Dr. Brought and his staff during a consultation to discuss the procedure and its effects. Once you and Dr. Brought agree you are a good candidate for surgery, he will begin the surgery preparations. Dr. Brought will measure your breasts and may photograph them for reference or insurance purposes. He will ensure you are happy with the recommended size and shape before surgery.

The Procedure

Mammoplasty uses several techniques to reduce and reshape breasts. At SPRSI, Dr. Brought makes a vertical incision that helps reduce scarring and keep the shape for a longer time. He will remove excess fat, skin, and glandular tissue to make your breasts smaller. Dr. Brought will also reposition the nipples and adjust the areola sizes if necessary. If your breasts are exceptionally large, he may recommend using a horizontal incision along the inframammary fold as well.

Recovery

To properly recover and ensure your breasts heal, you'll have to wear a surgical bra or sports bra all day and night for several weeks until the swelling and bruising subside. The dressing can help improve blood flow to important anatomical structures and can also minimize eventual scarring. You will also need to avoid raising your arms above 90 degrees and lifting or pushing heavy objects for several weeks.
